About the event

Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine based on ancient Indian texts called the Rk Veda. The Maharishi consciousness-based approach to Ayurveda is unique because it recognizes the importance of meditation, and emphasizes the connection between mental health, quality of digestion and disease.

This seminar is an opportunity to learn in an informal group setting how stress impacts the body from the Maharishi Ayurvedic perspective.  You will also be given tools to improve your overall "stress digestion" for better mental and physical health.  After a short introduction to Ayurvedic concepts, you will learn a low-impact sequence of yoga asanas (poses) to help increase lymphatic flow, and improve skeletal alignment and function. We will close with pranayama breathing and meditation to increase the flow of consciousness and settle our minds for sound sleep.

We will discuss the impact that stress has from an Ayurvedic perspective, and you will learn why adding these ancient techniques to your routine makes you more resilient.  Benefits reported are improved sleep, better digestion, less anxiety, and increased energy.

The studio has mats, blankets, and backjacks (floor seating) available for your comfort.  Water and tea are available in the studio, but you may wish to bring your own covered water bottle as well as a pen and notebook or journal.

About the Instructor

Karen Baskett is a life-long athlete and a professional dancer. She began studying Ayurveda during the pandemic and tried several recipes using spices in her pantry. She immediately noticed improvements in her health after making small adjustments to her diet and aligning her behaviors to the needs of her body.

She has a bachelor's degree in Botany with an emphasis in Ethnobotany from NAU in Flagstaff where she became fascinated by the power of herbal medicine. She will complete her three-year master's degree in Maharishi Ayurveda and Integrated Medicine from Maharishi International University in December of 2023, and has a strong desire to share this science-based, ancient knowledge that empowers people to live healthier and longer lives.  Learn more about Karen and her work here.
