About the event
Join us for a Mantra House Social - an evening of Kirtan Yoga/Meditation led by Dr. Sandhya Subramanian from Mumbai and Gong Meditation led by Stephanie Wood! Kirtan is a type of call and response mantra meditation from ancient India that calls upon conscious sounds to help participants better find a sense of joy and purpose in their daily lives. Immerse yourself in sound vibrations surrounded by gongs, harmoniums, and other instruments that allow yourself to be still, yet experience a moving symphony for the senses.
Donation: We suggest a donation of $10 per person to cover the space rental. If you are not able to donate this much, come anyway and donate what you can.
About Dr Sandhya Subramania B.D.S (Dental surgery). MS (Psychotherapy and Counselling)
Sita is a qualified dentist but also very passionate about working for the environment, youth and women. Spiritually, Sandhya has been a sincere practitioner of Bhakti yoga for the past 28 years. She presently heads the Women Empowerment and Skill Development program for rural women at Radhanath Swami’s Eco Village outside of Mumbai. This program assists rural women with respect to various aspects of holistic health and well-being such as spirituality, health, poverty alleviation, food security. The program also supports their independent livelihood through skills such as stitching, painting, handicrafts and food production.
About Stephanie Wood
Stephanie is a sacred and therapeutic sound practitioner, a sound artist, educator and healing justice activist. With a plethora of gongs and other instruments she incorporates surrounding soundscape, silence, and collective participation. Some sound sessions center harmony, healing, creativity and connection. Others center in the weird and wonderful experimental world. Stephanie is a former composer and orchestrator for Guru Gayatri equinox & solstice events. She’s engaged in diverse collaborations including Seattle’s DAIPANbutoh and various experimental ambiences.
Stephanie strongly believes in the power of creating spaces for "radical respite", individual and collective resilience. She always enjoys co-creating soul-full spaces with new people and new visions. She’ll take any opportunity to make gongs and immersive sonic experiences more accessible. Pauline Oliveros is her “patron saint” of sonic awareness.
